A Kenyan upbringing with memories of campfire cooking on safari, and parents working in the catering and restaurant trade, has undoubtedly inspired Suzie House’s passion for cooking. Combine that with being married to a local Wiltshire baker and you can understand why it’s such a major part of her life.
In June 2016 Suzie started making home cooked food for delivery, and set-up a cookery school which she runs from her home in Devizes. Trained as a teacher, and having worked in primary education for many years, her experience bodes well for her new venture. A desire for change and to be her own boss motivated her to launch Delushious Home Comforts.
‘It all started with my food blog which made me realise this is what I wanted to do. I make home-cooked meals that I deliver to homes and offices in a 3 mile radius of Devizes, and my cookery classes for children have included introduction to French cuisine where they made their own pastry for chicken pie and chocolate mousse! People also request cupcakes and celebration cakes for delivery so I offer those too.’
Eternally inspired by her African upbringing Suzie has even handmade her student’s aprons from old kikoys, a Kenyan sarong. Classes are for no more than 4 children and with feedback like ‘A had a fab time & wants to go again’ she’s definitely on to something.
I love the fresh air and stunning scenery – the way it sparkles in the sunshine makes it a lovely place to live. I also like that it is easy access to many other places and an hour or so to London, Bristol or the Dorset coast. Wiltshire is a peaceful and beautiful place to be.

Living at the top of Caen Hill means we have access to the Kennet & Avon Canal. Walking in either direction along its banks is one of my favourite things to do, whatever the weather. Rolling countryside and stunning scenery and the changing views brought about by the different seasons means that no two walks are the same. Looking out for the boats as they progress up and down the hill and through the 28 locks is a lovely way to while away the hours. The birdlife is fascinating as are the people who live, work, walk, holiday, cycle and run along ‘our’ stretch of the canal.
Infusion is an oasis of calm based in Devizes. Pretty pastel décor and a small outdoor space contributes to a lovely experience of healthy food and drink. Green, white and red leaf teas (my favourite is called Elf’s Experience), as well as a varied selection of fruit and vegetable juices are served alongside superb salads, crostini and panninis. It is one of my newest favourite cafes in the town – a real treat. And it is not too pricey either!
Gifted sells gorgeous, quirky gifts and cards. It is in The Shambles in Devizes which is a hidden treasure trove in the town. You’ll find fashion accessories, vintage ware, Bomb cosmetics and party Bags. Definitely worth a visit.
